Gutter Repairs, Replacement & Installation

Leaking, rusted or overflowing gutters? Cristian is a licensed roof plumber based in Dandenong who repairs, replaces, installs, cleans and guards gutters across Melbourne.

Repair or replace: signs to look for

  • Rust: a short rusted section can often be replaced on its own. Rust along the whole run, or holes through the base, usually means replacement.

  • Sagging: often caused by failed or missing brackets, which can be replaced. Sagging that has bent the gutter out of shape may need a new length.

  • Leaking joints and corners: usually repairable by resealing or replacing the joiner.

  • Overflowing: cleaning may fix it. If the gutter still overflows when clean, the cause may be the wrong fall, too few downpipes or a gutter that's undersized for the roof.

  • Water stains on walls or fascia, or water pooling against the house.

  • Gutters pulling away from the fascia, which can point to rotten timber behind them.

If the leak is around a chimney, skylight or where the roof meets a wall, the gutter may not be the problem. See roof flashing.

Gutter services

Gutter repairs

We fix leaking joints, holes, loose brackets, sagging runs, and gutters that hold water because the fall is wrong. If most of the gutter is sound, a repair is usually the sensible fix.

Gutter cleaning

We clear leaves, sludge and debris from gutters and outlets so water can flow properly.

Gutter replacement

When rust has spread along the run, or the gutter is too small for the roof, replacing it is better value than patching it every winter. We remove and dispose of the old gutters and any rubbish from the job, and check the fascia before the new ones go up.

Gutter guard

We install gutter guard to cut down how much leaf litter gets into your gutters, which helps if trees overhang your roof.

New gutters for new builds and extensions

We install gutters sized and set out for the roof, with the correct fall to the downpipes, ready to connect to the stormwater system.

Gutter types and profiles

Cristian installs and repairs all the common gutter types and profiles found on Melbourne homes. That includes Colorbond steel and Zincalume gutters, quad and half-round profiles, and box gutters.

Gutters are only half the system. If your downpipes are blocked or leaking, see downpipe repairs. For box gutters, rainheads and stormwater connections, see roof drainage.

Fascia repairs

Gutters are fixed to the fascia boards, so rotten or damaged fascia has to be sorted before new gutters can go on. Cristian repairs rotten fascia himself, so you don't need to bring in another trade.

What affects the cost of gutter work

Every roof is different. What makes the most difference:

  • Length: how many metres of gutter need repairing or replacing

  • Height and access: single or double storey, steep blocks, tight side paths, and whether scaffolding or edge protection is needed

  • Gutter type and profile: standard eaves gutters versus box gutters, and the material chosen

  • Downpipes: whether downpipes or outlets also need replacing or adding

  • Fascia condition: how much rotten or damaged fascia needs repairing behind the old gutters

A call-out fee applies; you'll get a clear quote before any work starts.

How a gutter job runs

  1. Get in touch. Call 0410 924 363 or send a quote request. Form enquiries get a reply within 24 hours.

  2. Inspection. Cristian checks the gutters, downpipes, fascia and roof edge to find the real cause of the problem.

  3. Clear quote. A call-out fee applies for the visit. Your written quote then sets out what needs doing, with repair and replacement options where both make sense. No work starts until you've approved it.

  4. The work. Any rotten fascia is repaired, the gutters are fitted with the right fall to the outlets and properly fixed, and the old gutters and rubbish are taken away.

  5. Paperwork. For work valued over $750 (labour and materials included), you get a compliance certificate within five days, as Victorian law requires.

Gutter FAQs

Do I need a licensed plumber to replace gutters?
Yes. In Victoria, repairing, replacing or installing gutters and downpipes is roofing (stormwater) work, so it must be done by a plumber licensed or registered in that class. Cleaning and painting gutters don't need a licence. You can check a plumber's licence on the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC) website. Flow Now's licence number is 125484.
Will I get a compliance certificate for new gutters?
If the total value of the job is over $750, including labour and materials, the licensed plumber must give you a compliance certificate within five days of finishing and lodge it with the BPC. A full gutter replacement will usually be over that amount. Keep the certificate with your property records.
Why do my gutters overflow when they're clean?
Common causes are a gutter that doesn't fall towards the outlet, a blocked or undersized downpipe, too few downpipes for the roof area, or a gutter that's too small for the amount of water coming off the roof. These can all be fixed, and the inspection will show which one it is.
Do you clean gutters and install gutter guard?
Yes. We clean gutters and outlets and install gutter guard. Gutter guard reduces how much leaf litter gets in, but gutters still need checking from time to time.
Do you take away the old gutters?
Yes. Removing and disposing of the old gutters and any rubbish from the job is part of a gutter replacement. If the fascia behind them is rotten, Cristian repairs it before the new gutters go on.
Which areas do you cover?
We're based in Dandenong and do a lot of gutter work across the south-east, including Noble Park, Keysborough, Springvale, Clayton, Narre Warren, Berwick and Frankston. We cover the rest of Melbourne too, so wherever you are, give us a call.
